Barong is one of the sacred elements of Balinese Mythology in Indonesia. He is leonine looking creature who is known as the Supreme King of the spirits and leader of the good spirits. He is constantly engaged in warfare with Rangda, the queen of demons.

Barong is believed to provide protection and guidance from evil for all his adherents, leading them out of harm’s way as intended by Rangda and her host of demons.

The symbol of Barong as commonly seen is a red headed lion with thick white fur, who is adorned in jewelry and mirrors. This symbol is believed to carry the power of Barong today and provide protection and guidance.
