Soma is a triple moon ring in oxidized 925 sterling silver, set with an 8×4 mm marquise rainbow moonstone. The stone is the full moon: a silver crescent sits on either side of it, so the three phases — waxing, full, waning — read across the top of the ring. The band is botanical, with bark texture and small sculpted leaves running into the shoulders.
Most triple moon rings are purely celestial. This one puts the moon phases on a branch, which is where the symbol came from in the first place: lunar cycles, growing seasons, and the turning of a year were the same calendar.
The symbol
The triple moon — waxing crescent, full moon, waning crescent — is also called the triple goddess symbol. In Wiccan and neopagan tradition the three phases stand for Maiden, Mother and Crone: beginning, fullness and wisdom. Older readings tie the same three to intuition, creativity and knowing. It is one of the most widely recognized feminine symbols in Western esoteric tradition, and it predates most of the religions that borrowed it.
The stone
Rainbow moonstone is a trade name, and the stone behind it is white labradorite — a plagioclase feldspar. Classic moonstone is a different mineral: orthoclase, a potassium feldspar. The two are cousins within the feldspar family, which is why the trade groups them together, and why the flash is not quite the same in each.
What you see in this stone is labradorescence: light scattering between microscopic layers inside the crystal, throwing a sheen that appears to float under the surface rather than sit on it. Blue dominates, with other colors surfacing at certain angles. Classic orthoclase moonstone shows adularescence instead — softer, whiter, less colorful. Labradorite is the showier of the two, which is why rainbow moonstone became popular in the first place.
The stone is cut as a marquise cabochon, 8 × 4 mm — a pointed oval, polished to a smooth dome rather than faceted. A cabochon suits this material because the domed surface gathers the labradorescence into one travelling flash. Facets would cut it into fragments.
Labradorite sits at 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. That is hard enough for daily wear but softer than quartz, sapphire or diamond, so the ring should be kept away from hard knocks and taken off for heavy manual work.
Moonstone is one of the birthstones for June, alongside pearl and alexandrite, and rainbow moonstone is worn as such throughout the trade.
The silver
925 sterling silver — 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for strength, the standard for fine silver jewelry.
The finish is lightly oxidized: a darkened patina worked into the recesses of the bark texture and around the leaves, while the raised surfaces stay bright. The contrast is what makes the botanical detail visible at a glance. Oxidation is a surface treatment, not a coating — it deepens naturally with time and can be refreshed.
How it is made
Soma begins as a wax model sculpted by hand in our own workshop, is cast in 925 sterling silver, and is finished individually. The moons, leaves and band are carved as one form rather than assembled from parts. Every piece carries a lifetime warranty.
